BREAKING: The Atlantic republishes JD Vance’s own anti-Trump

The Atlantic just handed America a July 4th gift, and JD Vance wrote it himself. On the country’s 250th birthday, the magazine republished the blistering anti-Trump essay Vance wrote exactly ten years ago, back when he was still telling the truth. In it, Vance accused Trump of exploiting the economic pain of working-class America and called Trump’s promises “the needles in America’s collective vein.” That was not even the worst of it. Vance, a self-described “Never Trump guy” at the time, called Trump an “idiot” and admitted to a friend that he went back and forth between thinking Trump was “a cynical a**hole like Nixon” or “America’s Hitler.”

Then ambition made its offer. Vance took the Senate seat, then the vice presidency, and buried every warning he ever gave. Atlantic writer Peter Wehner argued that the comedown Vance predicted a decade ago has now arrived, pointing to a recent poll showing Trump’s approval at just 30 percent, rising consumer prices, and a fracturing MAGA base that now includes longtime allies like Tucker Carlson.

Vance’s Own Words Become the Evidence

Wehner put it plainly: the man who once saw the danger so clearly has transformed into “a peddler of lies he is surely clever enough to recognize as such.” He closed by quoting Vance’s own memoir, where Vance wrote that “nothing compares to the fear that you’re becoming the monster in your closet.” Ten years later, the monster Vance feared in private is now standing in public, one heartbeat from the presidency, and his own words are the receipts.
