Kentucky Auditor Finds ‘Concerning Luxury’ Spending By Democrat Governor

Allison Ball, the Republican state auditor of Kentucky, recently spoke with Fox News Digital about a report raising concerns over spending within the state’s executive branch, which is led by Democratic Governor Andy Beshear. Beshear has been widely viewed as a potential future presidential contender, and the report questions how taxpayer funds were used during the 2025 fiscal year.

Ball released the audit earlier this month after reviewing spending data entered into the state’s financial system. The report identified what she described as several “concerning expenditures,” including $183,576 in out-of-state travel costs. Among those expenses were $7,632 for limousine services in Germany, $17,013 for a dinner at a Kentucky distillery, and approximately $360,000 spent on a two-day conference attended by 75 people within the state.

Ball also pointed to about $338,000 spent by the governor’s office and the tourism cabinet on a nonprofit called First Saturday in May, which hosts events tied to the annual Kentucky Derby.

While Ball acknowledged that elected officials require security and travel resources, she argued that many of the expenses appeared excessive and resembled luxury spending. She said such use of taxpayer funds should be carefully reviewed and reduced where possible.
