In light of shooting reports, Corewell Health Beaumont Troy has enforced a lockdown!

In the early hours of Thursday morning, routine operations at Corewell Health Beaumont Troy Hospital were abruptly disrupted by a violent incident that transformed a place of care into a scene of fear and uncertainty. Located about 24 miles north of Detroit, the hospital became the focus of a large law enforcement response after reports of an active shooter surfaced around 7:00 a.m. The facility was quickly placed on lockdown, forcing staff, patients, and visitors to shelter in place as confusion spread throughout the building.

Authorities say the incident began in the hospital’s parking lot, where a workplace dispute between two employees escalated into gunfire. Investigators believe the attack was targeted rather than random. The suspect reportedly fired at least five shots, striking a 25-year-old male employee twice in the arm. Additional rounds hit a nearby vehicle, heightening panic among those in the area. The injured employee was rushed inside the hospital for treatment and is now in stable condition, with injuries described as non-life-threatening.

Emergency protocols were activated immediately. An active shooter alert was issued internally and to nearby residents, urging people to avoid the area and remain sheltered. Inside the hospital, staff followed emergency training procedures—locking doors, barricading rooms, and staying out of sight. Witnesses described the frightening scene, including heavily armed officers sweeping through the parking structure and hallways.

The surrounding community was also affected. Nearby schools were placed on lockdown, and authorities advised the public to avoid roads near the hospital, including Dequindre Road and M‑59 Highway. Emergency vehicles quickly filled the area as multiple agencies worked together to secure the scene.

After fleeing, the suspect was tracked to a residence in Macomb Township. Following several hours of negotiations, the individual surrendered peacefully and was taken into custody. Officials have not released the suspect’s identity as the investigation continues.

The hospital has since resumed normal operations, though increased security remains in place. Officials credited staff preparedness and the rapid law enforcement response for preventing further harm. The incident has renewed concerns about workplace safety in healthcare settings and highlighted how quickly violence can disrupt even the most routine environments.
