Breaking at Capitol Hill – Democrats Erupt After Speaker Johnson’s Announcement as the House Passes Bill Reversing …

In Washington, D.C., the Republican-controlled United States House of Representatives has passed the Unlocking Our Domestic LNG Potential Act of 2025, a bill aimed at expanding U.S. liquefied natural gas exports and restructuring the federal approval process.

Supporters of the legislation say it will strengthen the country’s energy sector and provide greater certainty for producers and exporters. The measure also aligns with energy policies promoted by Donald Trump, whose administration has emphasized increasing domestic energy production and exports.

Mike Johnson, the Republican Speaker of the House from Louisiana, said the legislation is intended to expand access to reliable energy, support American workers, and lower costs for consumers. According to Johnson, the bill ensures that future administrations cannot pause or halt liquefied natural gas export approvals in the same way critics say occurred during the administration of Joe Biden.

A central provision of the bill changes how export permits are handled. Authority over approvals would shift away from the United States Department of Energy and move primarily to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, which already oversees many aspects of energy infrastructure.

Representative August Pfluger of Texas, who introduced the legislation, said the bill is designed to streamline the approval process and encourage investment in LNG projects. Supporters point to several large export initiatives announced in early 2025, representing tens of billions of dollars in planned infrastructure investment.

At the same time, House leaders have announced plans to hold hearings addressing rising violence against law enforcement officers nationwide. The announcement followed a recent shooting in Washington involving members of the United States National Guard deployed as part of a federal anti-crime initiative.

Army Specialist Sarah Beckstrom died from her injuries in the incident, while Air Force Staff Sgt. Andrew Wolfe remains hospitalized but is reportedly recovering. Authorities say the suspect is an Afghan national who entered the United States during the Biden administration.

Republican leaders say the hearings will focus on crime trends and border security policies as Congress continues debating immigration and public safety measures.
