President Trump Announces $12 Billion Aid Package for American Farmer

President Donald Trump unveiled a $12 billion economic assistance program for American farmers, saying the funding will stabilize the agricultural sector and help lower food prices for consumers.

Trump made the announcement in Washington alongside Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, members of Congress, and farming community representatives. The administration said the aid would be funded through tariff revenue collected from foreign imports.

“A small share of those funds should be directed toward helping American farmers navigate economic challenges,” Trump said, arguing that the United States has collected substantial tariff revenue from countries that benefited unfairly from previous trade arrangements.

How the Program Works

The $12 billion relief package is intended to provide certainty for farmers as they bring this year’s harvest to market and prepare for future planting seasons. Officials stated that supporting agricultural producers could contribute to lower food costs for American families.

The Department of Agriculture will distribute the assistance through federal agricultural support mechanisms, with additional implementation details to be released in the coming weeks.

The President’s Rationale

Trump criticized previous economic policies, arguing that farmers were negatively affected by inflation, rising operating costs, and restrictions related to energy and water use. He claimed that farm bankruptcies increased significantly during the Biden administration.

The president also highlighted recent trade agreements, pointing to commitments from China to purchase large quantities of American soybeans and agreements with Japan for billions of dollars in agricultural purchases including corn, ethanol, and fertilizer.

Industry Response

Agricultural representatives attending the event emphasized the importance of stable markets, export opportunities, and government support during periods of economic uncertainty. Many welcomed the announcement as a step toward strengthening the agricultural economy.
