SOTU Guest Arrested, Hospitalized After Protest During Trump Speech

Aliyah Rahman, a guest of Rep. Ilhan Omar at the State of the Union address, needed hospital treatment after her arrest during President Donald Trump’s speech. Rahman silently stood when Trump spoke about Department of Homeland Security funding, refusing U.S. Capitol Police orders to sit. She attempted to use a standing ovation from the crowd to justify staying, but officers began her removal.

Despite using a crutch, Capitol Police pulled Rahman towards the exit, eliciting protest from another guest over the aggressive handling. Both Rahman and Rep. Omar confirmed that medical care was needed post-incident. The confrontation underscored the swift consequences of defying protocol at a prominent political event.
