Trump Declared in “Excellent Health” After Walter Reed Medical Examination
President Donald Trump remains in “excellent health” and is “fully fit” to carry out the responsibilities of commander in chief, according to a medical memorandum released by the White House following his latest examination at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center.
The evaluation, conducted in late May by White House physician Dr. Sean Barbabella, included a broad range of medical assessments intended to evaluate Trump’s cardiovascular, neurological, pulmonary and overall physical condition. The findings were released publicly as questions surrounding the 79-year-old president’s health continue to attract national attention. According to Barbabella’s report, Trump demonstrated strong cardiac, pulmonary, neurological and general physical function. The physician concluded that the president remains capable of performing the demanding duties of the presidency.
The examination also documented several minor health issues. Trump was found to have slight swelling in his lower legs, although the report said the condition had improved compared with the previous year. The president had previously been diagnosed with chronic venous insufficiency, a condition that can cause blood to pool in the legs and produce swelling. The latest assessment did not indicate that the condition had significantly affected his ability to perform his duties.
Minor Health Issues Addressed
Physicians also addressed bruising visible on Trump’s hands. Barbabella described the bruising as benign and consistent with minor soft-tissue irritation associated with frequent handshaking and aspirin use for cardiovascular prevention. The report recommended continued preventive care, including low-dose aspirin, dietary improvements, increased physical activity and continued attention to weight management.
Trump was listed at 6 feet, 3 inches tall and 238 pounds. His weight represents an increase from the 224 pounds recorded during his April 2025 physical. His body mass index was therefore close to, but below, the commonly used obesity threshold of 30. The medical report also highlighted Trump’s cognitive and neurological performance.
A comprehensive neurological examination reportedly found normal mental status, while screening for depression and anxiety produced no concerning findings. Trump has repeatedly emphasized his performance on cognitive testing, making the results an important part of the public discussion surrounding his age and fitness for office.
Previous Examinations and Public Health Interest
The latest examination is not Trump’s first detailed medical evaluation since returning to the White House. His April 2025 physical also reported normal cardiac and neurological findings, including a 30-out-of-30 score on the Montreal Cognitive Assessment, while his October 2025 follow-up described him as being in exceptional health. The disclosure comes as presidential health remains a major subject of public interest.
Trump became the oldest person to assume the presidency when he began his second term, and his age has continued to fuel political debate over presidential stamina, cognitive ability and long-term fitness. The White House has consistently presented Trump as physically active and capable of maintaining a demanding schedule. At the same time, the latest report acknowledges minor age-related health concerns while emphasizing that they have not prevented him from carrying out his presidential responsibilities.
For now, the assessment from Trump’s physician is unequivocal: despite minor medical findings, the president is considered by his medical team to be in excellent overall health and fully capable of performing the duties of the presidency.
