Speaker Johnson: ‘It Is Bidenomics That Got Us Into This Mess’
House Speaker Mike Johnson placed responsibility for the nation’s economic struggles on what he described as “Bidenomics,” arguing that high levels of government spending under President Joe Biden contributed to inflation and rising costs for American families. During a recent interview on Fox News with co-hosts Bill Hemmer and Dana Perino, Johnson said Republican policies have helped stabilize the economy and reverse some of the pressures felt over the past several years.
Johnson pushed back against claims that concerns about affordability are overstated, saying many Americans continue to feel the effects of higher prices. He argued that large federal spending packages drove inflation to levels not seen in decades, making everyday necessities more expensive. According to Johnson, Republican-led efforts since taking control of Congress in January have focused on reducing inflation, encouraging growth, and lowering costs.
He pointed to signs he believes reflect improvement, including easing inflation trends, lower gas prices, and stronger economic growth. Johnson said these developments demonstrate that Republican policies aimed at cutting taxes and limiting spending can produce measurable results. He added that continued economic improvement could play a significant role in shaping voter sentiment ahead of upcoming elections.
Johnson also addressed immigration policy, criticizing Democratic proposals to reduce funding for Immigration and Customs Enforcement. He argued that ICE plays a key role in enforcing immigration laws and maintaining public safety. Johnson maintained that stronger enforcement is necessary following what he described as increased border crossings during the Biden administration. He emphasized that Republicans view immigration enforcement as central to national security and community safety.
In addition, Johnson responded to criticism of the Stop Insider Trading Act, including comments from Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. He defended the legislation as an effort to increase transparency and rebuild public trust by prohibiting members of Congress from trading stocks. Johnson said the measure was designed to prevent conflicts of interest and reinforce accountability.
Throughout the interview, Johnson portrayed Republican priorities—addressing inflation, strengthening border enforcement, and promoting government transparency—as key steps toward restoring economic stability and confidence in federal leadership.
