Trump Appoints Sara Carter As Drug Czar: ‘Will Lead The Charge To Protect’ US

President Donald Trump announced that journalist Sara Carter will serve as the next Director of the Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP), a position commonly known as the nation’s “drug czar.” Trump shared the news on Truth Social, stating that Carter would help lead efforts to combat illegal drugs and protect American communities.

Carter later thanked the president and said she was honored to join the administration. In a post on X, she emphasized her commitment to public safety and pledged to continue advocating for stronger action against drug trafficking.

Before the appointment, Carter worked as a reporter and contributor for Fox News, where she frequently covered immigration issues and security concerns along the U.S.–Mexico border. She has often called for stricter border enforcement, arguing that drug and human trafficking have grown alongside illegal crossings.

Several political figures praised the decision. Senator Marsha Blackburn congratulated Carter, saying she would work tirelessly to protect Americans from drug-related threats. Officials in Texas law enforcement also welcomed the appointment, noting Carter’s long focus on border security.

The announcement comes as Trump continues to shape his second administration through a rapid series of policy moves and executive orders. Since returning to office in January, he has signed roughly 100 executive orders while pursuing sweeping changes to federal policy and government staffing.

Recent national polls show mixed public reactions to Trump’s leadership. Surveys by Reuters/Ipsos and Fox News suggest approval ratings hovering around the high-40 percent range, reflecting both strong support among Republican voters and continued division among the broader electorate.
