Fetterman Defies Democrats to Back Trump’s Iran Strikes
Sen. John Fetterman (D-Pa.) dramatically broke from his party to offer staunch support for President Donald Trump’s recent strikes on Iranian targets. Fetterman declared Trump “absolutely correct,” asserting that such actions are “right and necessary to produce real peace” and dubbed his vote “Operation Epic Fury.” He publicly distanced himself from Democrats calling for a war powers vote, appearing on Fox & Friends Weekend to double down on his position, stating that “sometimes peace is possible after these kinds of steps.”
He further rejected criticism from Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) regarding the lack of congressional authorization, emphasizing that the conflict targets a “poisonous regime,” not the Iranian people, and mentioning Iran’s internal massacres. Meanwhile, prominent Republicans, including Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) and Senate Armed Services Committee Chair Roger Wicker, lauded Trump’s decisive action. Graham hailed the “historic operation,” while Wicker outlined its strategic goals: thwarting Iran’s nuclear ambitions, degrading ballistic missile capabilities, and destroying naval and terrorism assets.
U.S. officials confirmed strikes targeted military and ballistic missile sites posing an “imminent threat,” with reports indicating Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei’s compound in Tehran was hit. President Trump concluded the operation with a direct message to Iranians, urging them to “take over your government” once the mission was complete.
