DOJ Slams California Officials Over Threats to Arrest Federal Agents

U.S. Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche has issued a direct warning to California officials, including former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, over their threats to impede federal immigration enforcement and arrest ICE agents. In a formal letter, Blanche informed Gov. Gavin NewsomAttorney General Rob BontaSan Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins, and Pelosi that federal officers are lawfully executing their duties, deeming any interference “illegal and futile.” This warning followed Pelosi and Rep. Kevin Mullin‘s public threats to arrest federal agents during an anticipated Bay Area immigration raid, accusing the Trump administration of “abusing law enforcement power.”

Blanche swiftly posted on X about the letter, ordering California Democrats to “stand down or face prosecution,” adding, “No one threatens our agents.” The DOJ letter cites federal statutes against impeding federal officers and invokes the Supremacy Clause of the U.S. Constitution, asserting state authorities cannot prosecute federal officials acting within their scope. Blanche directed officials to preserve all relevant communications, warning of investigation and prosecution. This marks a sharp confrontation between the Trump administration and California over immigration enforcement, with no public response yet from California officials.
